* Travel Information

Shrewsbury is readily accessible by road or rail. The nearest airport is Birmingham, which is connected to Birmingham International station. In order to travel to Shrewsbury by train you will need to change at Birmingham New Street. Timetables are available from National Rail.

You may prefer to fly by EasyJet, in which case Liverpool John Lennon is the nearest airport. You will have to change at either Crewe or Chester, and again National Rail have an online timetable to help plan your journey.

A set of maps is available to help you plan your journey, if travelling by road.

* Local Accommodation

Luxurious accommodation is available in the Albright Hussey hotel itself, and this may prove very convenient - rooms from £79 (single occupancy) or £110 (double occupancy). Alternatively, Shrewsbury has a wide range of other hotels, bed and breakfasts and camp sites. The following covers a wide range of styles and prices:

  • The Lion Hotel: located in the centre of town, rooms from £41. +44 (0)870 6096167
  • Moneybrook Guest House: located close to Adrian's parents' house, this is convenient and very pleasant. £20-28. +44 (0)1743 355559
  • Oxon Hall Touring Park: located slightly to the west, I don't know much about this place but it could be useful for those with a campervan. +44 (0)1743 340868
  • Beaconsfield Farm: located extremely close to the wedding venue, this campsite may be rather expensive; I couldn't find much helpful price information. +44 (0)1939 210370
  • Some camping space may also be available in the garden of Adrian's parents' house in Shrewsbury, although this will be limited by the amount of washing facilities available! Please email us if interested.

There are also many self catering properties in the area, which may be ideal for those guests wishing to extend their stay in the area. Details can be found at Tourist Net, the Shrewsbury Guide or by contacting the the Shropshire Tourist Board for further information.

* Tourist Information

Shropshire is a varied and beautiful rural county, and those wedding guests wishing to extend their stay will find plenty to explore, see and taste! The links below include a few of our favourite corners of Shropshire, as well as some links to more general tourist information websites.

  • Flounders' Folly is a recently-restored tower on the top of Callow Hill, near Craven Arms. It has excellent views over the South Shropshire hills; we came here several times during our courting.
  • The Bird on the Rock tearoom at Clungunford are wonderful: easily combined with a day walking in the hills or visiting the foody delights of Ludlow, this tearoom regularly wins top awards from the Tea Council thanks to the authentic 1920s charm, attention to detail and excellent teas and cakes. It is another of our favourite places.
  • The Long Mynd, in the heart of the South Shropshire hills, is another beautiful area and offers excellent, though not too strenuous, hillwalking.
  • Grinshill is a picturesque hill about 10 miles north of Shrewsbury and is a lovely, gentle spot to walk around. The nearby village of Clive has an excellent pub (the Railway Inn).
  • The market town of Ludlow is Shropshire's food capital; the gourmet restaurants there attract top chefs, and the regular market offers high quality local food. There is also a castle and medieval and Georgian buildings.
  • Shrewsbury, as well as being Adrian's home town, is a pleasant and historical market town. The site of the Battle of Shrewsbury, its near encirclement by the river Severn made it an important Marches stronghold in medieval times, and today the river still shapes the heart of the town.
  • Ironbridge is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution; there are still many signs of the town's industrial past, including the world's first ever iron bridge, but the area is still very pretty. There is a very interesting working museum at Blist's Hill.
  • Shropshire Tourist Board can provide further details and information about other things to do and see in Shropshire.
